Yes. Joining two or more lengths of Cat5 cable using an RJ45
coupler will work just fine, but it should be considered a
temporary solution to whatever connectivity issue required the
use of it in the first place. The more "connection points" that
you have in a cable, or in a network for that matter, provide
additional points where signal loss can occur.
If you must join Cat5 cable using a coupler, make sure to rectify the problem with a proper length cable as soon as possible to restore maximum performance to the device using it.
Also, it should be noted that if you are operating a (speed) certified network, you are not going to be allowed to have any coupled repair points in the network to begin with. If you absolutely must have a temporary run of cable using a coupler, be sure to mark it in an obvious manner so that it does not get overlooked for replacement.
The use of couplers should always be considered an emergency measure, such as when a cable is accidentally severed and the cable cannot be immediately replaced. In such an instance, a new run of cable should be made as soon as possible to avoid loss of signal and poor performance.
Avoid joining cable with couplers when possible.
